@rootComputeThanks man! H&S was really cool; probably the first ROMhack I've played all the way through. I loved Gold and HG as a kid, so playing this felt like some kind of "missing link"
I definitely get what you mean, though. Especially for games that you have a nostalgic attachment to; it has the potential to turn you off them in some way, depending on how the set is crafted.
@N1GHTMAR3 Thanks dude! And tell me about it. I only have a few sets fully mastered, and a bunch with a small handful of really annoying or timesink cheevos left to get mastery on because I'll get around to them...eventually.
I think the best way to enjoy a game is to just do what you wanna do. If achievements help someone do that and they're GOOD ones, like really make you value the game you're playing. I had a friend who was REALLY into it for this game called Payday 2.
Some days I hated him for dragging me into it because some cheevos were a pain in the ass and so not fun, but other days I felt like I really accomplished something big. "The End" is one of the achievements I'm proudest to own in any game ever. I won't spoil the deets if you've never played PAYDAY 2 yourself. Just trust me.
Cool GBA you got there, Pokemon Heart and Soul is pretty awesome as well! I still need to go back and finish that, there are too many quality ROM hacks to get through.
I like the idea of achievements in theory and I'm motivated to hunt for them in games that have fully clicked for me, but I feel like they can get in the way of fully enjoying a game sometimes. I see the appeal of RetroAchievements but I worry it would make me play some of my old favorite games too differently. Sometimes I just want to be able to say I've finished a game when the credits roll and move on
Cool to see another RA user on here. I'd do them more often, but mastering RA sets is mentally taxing, so I gotta be in the right headspace to do them. Does feel nice seeing my badges lined up on my profile though, knowing the effort that goes into most of them.

Sick ass GBA btw!
