In my ongoing work for cataloging and archiving MMOs that still have Windows XP support, I discovered that one of my original discoveries from a few years ago has gone the way of modernizing. Guild Wars is now rebranded as Guild Wars - Reforged.

As far as I can tell, it looks and plays exactly the same. The rebranding and updating was for the sake of Steam Deck compatibility, which couldn't concern us XP gamers any less.

Guild Wars had Windows XP support from its release in 2005 up to November of 2025. 20 years gone - without warning.

The only way to get a working copy of the game is through Steam, and even if one did archive a pre-Reforged folder of Guild Wars Complete, it would throw errors on trying to connect to the master server.

There are no private servers for Guild Wars either.

Essentially, this is the end of an era.

Guild Wars is no longer playable on the computers that it was originally intended for.

On the bright side, I have collected over 20 MMOs (so far) that are alive and well with XP support. More importantly, I'm only halfway done with my gathering, so I suspect there to be many more games to come into this new collection project of mine.
