Hello everyone!

Today I'm going to answer the question, "Is Xfire a Discord replacement?" Well the short is answer will be a straight No, and don't worry I'll tell you my reasons.

First we need to study where the Discord concept came from, because what's trying to do is nothing new. In my opinion Discord is like a Frankenstein of features put together in the same place, we had voip apps that were very popular on the day and Discord have that, video streaming also was increasing popularity and Discord have that, what's the big deal then?

Well, if you already made the transition to be an AI or a bot, you will not understand what I have to say here, since this is a human feeling, but basically since we're all humans here if there are a lot of choices for us to choose then everything gets boring and we lose interest pretty fast... I know we should be able to handle the overhelming choices, but for our brains it's too much and unbearable so we just lose interest and move on. There are some studies in this topic and for what I've been talking with people it's really true the fact.

I think that's why we are happy having consoles old retro computers, because the choice in deciding what's good for us is kinda obvious and we shouldn't have an issue with it.

Another example would be our massive Steam libraries, like I'm pretty sure at some point even having more than 100 games you will think "Man, I'm so boring, let's check this new game", just make you think every single game in your library is not good enough and make you wish for more even tho 100 should be already enough.

Going back to Discord, We have lots of service put in place and for some people it's already too much and they are migrating for something else. Discord origins actually started with IRC, since in case you readers didn't know IRC you could make multiple "channels" or "rooms" with different topics in the same server. Also with IRC, the server was yours and you could uploud or share any messages you want without any consequence.

IRC unfortunate is old and I wouldn't recommend to go back to it since it has no authentication, and your messages aren't encrypted at all. IRC was made as a solution for text people, since on the time military needed to send signals in order to communicate with the other base in secret and IRC is so versatile that you can actually still do that if you want and of course get intercept by someone else hacking in your signal...

Xfire as an older concept, even if we had the voice call back, still wouldn't fit as a replacement, unless if you are 30 years old or more and really feel nostalgic for it. But if you are younger than that, they made you already be excited for embedded videos, links previews, sending files and images to your friend with ease, streaming audio and video to your friends and much more, like if you compare everything Discord has with poor Xfire, Discord can slap Xfire out of the Window.

It's worth it mentioning I'm not advocating for Discord either, but what Discord users don't understand is, this was never a competition in the first place, people have their preferences... For example, I wouldn't be using Discord for anything, I prefer having a Teamspeak server for many reasons and this still doesn't prove one is better than the other. Each individual have their preference with something and that's okay. Once people understand it's not a competition then Xfire can co-exist with Discord and the other alternatives out there...

As some people already know Xfire was made for gamers, from gamers, so the social aspect of it is kinda a consequence of the basic terms which are games. At least in the past Games were social as well... Today people lost the touch with each other in communicating with strangers, but back in the day it was a good deal. I guess the owner of Xf1re will say it was kinda for a miracle the platform exists today, so in a world we have to deal with so many choices at same time, having something simple, stripping lots of conveniant features is actually very good, since can make us Humans take better choices, no matter if the choice is taking a game to play or something else.

In these couuple of months, I've been speaking a lot on TeamSpeak with strangers and in my opinion it's been great so I can go deep in my thoughts about how the world and people work or think. So I was talking with a friend of mine, I made him decide between Xfire, Steam and a new platform that can do much better than the previous choices and he chose to be with Xfire. When I asked why, he said because Steam already has too much shit going on and the new platform could be better, but it all comes to choices in the end... Having a simple platform where it only does specific things were the winner in his case, which kinda proves my theory about less options and choices the better for a person decide without too much trouble or thinking.

So in conclusion: Both should co-exist without one bombing the other. Xfire will never be a replacement for Discord and Discord will never be a replacement for Xfire. When we are thinking, most younger people doesn't even know what Xfire was then we cannot think as a replacement for each other, maybe for you it will work, and I'm glad you found something you actually like to enjoy, but because each person is different they also need to find what they are looking for.

I still can trash Discord any moment, in my opinion It's a very bad corporative platform that was always like that, but some people are opening their eyes thinking they are the product when that was always the case... Nothing in this world is entirely free, someone needs to pay the bills in the end of the day, when you have many saying Discord is better because It's entirely free they clearly don't understand how the world works yet and I pray for some day they understand that.

I think we need to take this way, if you find a good place where you don't feel low every time and actually you make something people actually appreciate then that's the your platform to stay, but the moment you realize the same platform is bringing any positive vibes then it's time to move on and find your place, I say that with Xfire as well... Because this is an old revival project, of course it won't be great for everybody and it's okay, that's why as a community we need to find our niche, believe me it exists... Especially with the term "Indie Web" being more and more popular.

As side projects I'm working in a Forum to gather old knowledge for old hardware in one place + finding games as well... Countless of times me and my friends shared knowledge with each other but the information was only active between us, well my idea is having a Forum would facilitate exchange of information better than having a chat 1:1 or in a group. I looked even on Discord and Forums are great because you finding the information is way more quickly and less stressful, I never liked Forums, but I always understood why they exist... So me having a Forum now, also makes me understand why It's important to have information about something on the web and Discord and other private chats never going to be able to replace it...
