Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a remastered version of the 2007 game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It is identical to the original game, but now with high-definition resolution, enhanced textures and rendering, HDR lighting and various tweaks. The multiplayer component was also brought over and the game was launched with ten multiplayer maps (Ambush, Backlot, Bog, Crash, Crossfire, District, Downpour, Overgrown, Shipment, and Vacant). The other six maps (Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike, and Wet Work) were released as a free update before the end of 2016.

Shortly after the release, a microtransaction system for multiplayer was introduced. In December 2016, a supply drop system was added to the multiplayer as well, along with customization items such as emblems, calling cards, and character skins, in addition to new varieties of weapon camouflage. Further guns and melee weapons were also introduced eventually.

At first this remastered version was not available separately, but only as a bundle with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, specifically through the Digital Deluxe Edition, Legacy Edition, or Legacy Pro Edition. This continued until the game was released standalone in July 2017.

Multiple players have reported an "Out of memory" launch error that has been present since November 2016.
