Odamex is an open-source Doom engine built to deliver the best of classic multiplayer: fast, stable, and endlessly replayable. It also supports single-player experiences for those who want to enjoy Doom on their own terms.

Born from the spirit of id Software's 1993 masterpiece and its 1997 open-source release, Odamex carries forward the values that have defined the Doom community for decades: openness, portability, and collaboration.

Odamex's mission is to preserve and enhance the authentic Doom experience by combining modern client/server multiplayer with cross-platform support, accessible tools, and thoughtful quality-of-life improvements for solo, cooperative, and competitive play. We aim to promote these ideals to the Doom community through open development, shared knowledge, and a commitment to keeping classic gameplay alive for players everywhere.

Odamex's first official version, 0.1a, was released on January 19th, 2007. However, the project had been unofficially in development since 2005, when the first build of Odamex's precursor titled Zwango was created.
